Pass the wine.
Everything you heard about having a two year old is true. Don’t get me wrong, it’s wonderful being the Mother of a two year old (most of the time) but they call it the ‘Terrible Twos’ for a reason. And I’m only just at the start.
We celebrated Travis’ 2nd Birthday last Monday (well, Saturday, Sunday, Monday and Tuesday to be exact – That’s what happens when you have such a large family, I guess.)
We went to Peppa Pig World at Paultons Park on the Monday and he found it totally overwhelming. The park opened at 10:30am and he quickly became hungry and tired. We filled him with food and did 10 laps of the park (what a beautiful park!) with him in his pram to allow him to have a good nap before we attempted it again.
My child isn’t terrible.
The ‘Terrible Twos’… I prefer to call it ‘The Boundary Stage’. My child is not terrible, he’s just having some terrible times. He has this new-found independence yet can’t quite understand why I won’t let him ride the dog around the house, why he’s not to push the really indecisive child down the slide, why we’re not having pasta for breakfast, etc. etc. etc.
So, he vents his frustrations the only way he knows how, by throwing himself to the ground, thrashing his limbs and screaming like a banshee until he gets his own way. Sometimes he wins but most of the time we’re able to come to a compromise.
It takes a lot not to lose your cool as a parent of a two year old. I have to constantly remind myself of this brilliant saying I once heard; “My child isn’t giving me a hard time, my child is having a hard time.” I love this. It brings me back down to earth and helps me to sympathize with my child.
So, After a good nap and a bit more food, we were ready to give Paultons Park another go. We had a fabulous time! We went on all the rides at Peppa Pig World, pointed and “Wowww’ed” at all of the animals and picked out a ball and a “Dine-saw” toy from the gift shop just before we left.
Toddlepants certainly has his moments…
But most of the time, he is wonderful…
And we love him so, so much.
P.S. If you haven’t been to Paultons Park and you have a little one who is obsessed with Peppa Pig, we highly recommend you go and check it out!
