Beauty Box Subscription Reviews (January)

Which beauty subscription box will I prefer this month and what do I honestly think of all the individual products I received?

The three boxes are complimenting each other beautifully with their designs and colours this month! The BIRCHBOX with it’s Flamingo print is so pretty.

Last month’s Battle of the Beauty Boxes post saw the LookFanastic Beauty Box coming out on top. But, with the late delivery of my box this month (by almost 2 weeks!), they’ll have to really impress me to come out on top again!

Let’s start with:

BIRCHBOX (£10 + £2.95 P&P per month)

“Stand Tall and be Fabulous”

  1. Amika Perk Up Dry Shampoo
This smells so good and does what it says. I’m just a little sad that it’s such a small sample can as I can only get around two uses out of it.
  2. Paul & Joe Beauty Moisturising Foundation Primer
I like to wear my makeup relatively natural and this made it look and feel completely the opposite. The product is like a watery foundation and it smells like old people. It sat heavy compared to other primers and made my makeup feel claustrophobic. The colour also gave my face an orange tinge. I won’t be using this again.
  3. Afterspa Amazing Makeup Remover
I popped this straight into the washing machine before using (like instructed) and used it later that evening. This little fluffy cloth only requires the addition of water to take off your makeup (which is pretty awesome) and it claims to last up to 1,000 washes! It certainly took my Marcelle Waterproof Eyeliner off with very little effort.
  4. Lord & Berry Blusher Crayon in Peach (full-size)
I like this little crayon, which is good, because they accidentally sent me two! The crayon is really pigmented and blends okay – a little sticky. It can be worn subtle or layered up gradually for a brighter cheek.
  5. Marcelle Waterproof Eyeliner in Charcoal
I liked this pencil so much, it went into my makeup bag following it’s first use. A great eyeliner when you’re in a hurry as it applies really quickly and easily.

  1. Nail Medic Nail and Cuticle Energiser (full-size)
My dry, split cuticles are thankful for receiving this. And I quite like it too. Easy to apply and soaks in quickly with a little massage. This reparative oil contains a blend of vitamins, plants extracts, eucalyptus and lavender. It promises to hydrate and strengthen. I will try and use this often – I really need to.
  2. Apicia Cream Blush (full-size)
A little of this goes a really long way! Which is good because half of it shot out the first time I used it. This product is ‘rich in organic bee pollen to nourish skin’. It blends in beautifully and is silky soft. The colour is really lovely – they describe the colour as ‘a deep honey pink to suit all skin tones’
  3. Dr Botanicals Moroccan Rose Superfood Facial Oil (travel size)
This comes in a bottle with a pipette lid. It’s very watery and a little messy to apply. First impressions weren’t too bad but a few hours after, I could still smell it on my face and I was beginning to dislike the scent.
  4. Evelyn Iona Cosmetics Green Tea Primer (full-size)
This is a lovely product and applies and feels great. It contains avocado and green tea extract and smells really good. It’s cruelty and paraben free too!
  5. Boots Beauty Beneath Supplements (full-size)
I can’t fairly review this yet as I’m still breastfeeding my daughter. It also takes 4 weeks for results to take effect. I will update this as and when. ‘These nutrients work to boost your own collagen production, fading fine lines and wrinkles while leaving your skin softer than ever’

  1. Erno Laszlo Toners Hydraphel Skin Supplement
A thin oil that soaks into skin quickly (which is impressive for something so oily). My skin feels really soft after use. I like this product and will continue to use until sample is gone.
  2. Espa Pink Hair and Scalp Mud
There was only enough in this little sample tube for one application, which is a shame as the combination of Vitamin C, red clay and apricot kernel oil left my hair feeling lovely. Would definitely use again.
  3. Balance Me Congested Skin Serum
I like Balance Me products so I already knew I was going to like this. It smells so good and my spotty skin did actually look better after a day of using. It contains Kanuka oil which is a good natural antimicrobial and anti-bacterial to fight congestions (aka spots), and eucalyptus to calm redness.
  4. Korres White Tea Fluid Gel Cleanser
A really nice Cleanser that also removes makeup well. Contains 88.3% natural ingredients with white tea extract being the main ingredient. Smells sweet and skin feels lovely afterwards.
  5. Monuspa Warming Ginger Bath & Body Oil
This is SO lovely in the bath. It smells absolutely amazing and you don’t need to add much to the bath at all. Contains ginger, lemongrass and orange – lovely when you need to relax.
  6. ModelCo 3D Lash Primer
I didn’t like this product when I received it in last month’s Glossybox so this one will stay unopened. Smells like glue and makes my Benefit mascara look rubbish.

The LookFantastic Beauty Box has won it again for me for a second month in a row.

The LF Beauty Box contained some really lovely skin and hair care products this month. Even with the lower scoring (from receiving it late) and the lack of makeup products in their box, they’ve still managed to put together a better box than Birchbox and Glossybox.

Did you get any of these boxes this month? What did you think?
